There's a First Time for Everything

Wow! I've already been here 2 weeks! I can't believe it!  This week has had it's ups and downs.  I've been feeling homesick.  I've really been missing my family, Mitch, my friends, English, and the convenience of having everything a short car ride away from my house.  I have been buying things that I need, and a few things that I want, but basically all there is to do is explore and shop (or both at the same time haha).  My friends and I have gotten ourselves lost so many times and have had to ask for directions back to landmarks that we know, or our school or where ever.  Even though I've been homesick, I've kept myself together for the most part and tried to enjoy every minute I have here in Spain.. I just keep telling myself that I don't have time to be homesick.. I'm only here for 3 months!

I met up with my friend Holly the other day to buy a blow dryer and straightener and this was one of the buildings we saw on our walk to El Cortes Ingles (similar to Macy's). So beautiful!

I decided to take more pictures of around my casa.  When walking out the front door, this is looking to the left.  The white building is a hospital.  Encarna's having surgery there in a few weeks.

This is looking to the right.  I haven't explored much around there, but from what I have heard, there are a bunch of really good tapas bars around my place.. I'll have to check them out!

The front of my apartments.  We live on the 4th floor!  There are shops below my casa.

The ISA office... I go to this office a few times a week to check in and see if there's any tours or anything.  Or just to talk to the directors about bus routes or whatever.  This week I have had a lot of anxiety about taking the public buses because I've never taken one before.. I have to take one to meet the group for our Malaga/Ronda excursion.  I went and talked to Julio about the buses and got very overwhelmed, so when I walked upstairs, Marisa (the one in charge) saw that I was upset and asked me what was the matter.  I felt so overwhelmed and had mixed emotions (and homesick) all at the same time, I just burst into tears and sat and talked to her for a while.  She talked to me for a long time about the bus system and made me feel a lot better about it.. and my host mom talked to me about it too.  I was starting to feel at ease, but still I was nervous about taking the buses (sounds crazy, but it's scary to take a bus to an unknown destination in a foreign country where you don't know your way around!)  Needless to say, the ISA staff has been amazing.

A pretty building on my walk to school.

This is how close I live to the bull fighting ring.. the building on the left is my apartment complex.. and the building on the right is the plaza de toros (bull fighting ring). Cool

My first time on a public bus!!! Yes, we looked extremely touristy taking a picture like this, but I didn't care.. I needed to document this since it was such a big deal to me! hahaha  My friends Mike and Frederico agreed to go on bus adventures with me.  We rode around the city for about 2 and a half hours just looking at things and exploring around.  It was really fun.

Right next to the main bus stop in Granada, there is a McDonald's.. we HAD to take a picture with Ronaldo McDonald!

Me, Mike and Frederico.  I met them in my classes along with a few other really fun people.  Mike is from Montana and Frederico is from Italy.  Frederico looks like Harry Potter.. so funny! And he has the coolest accent haha

Mountains and Palm trees.. love it!  This was outside the McDonald's

So I found out that riding the bus isn't as bad or scary as I thought it would be.  It's very easy to buy a ticket (or card) and it's no big deal taking the bus! Haha.. but I will still never, ever take it in the US!!!  My first bus experience was very good!
